The Outdoor Wicker Is Either Made From Synthetic Fiber Or Coated With Resin For Durability
It is hard to choose outdoor furniture. There is such a lot to choose from and ironically, that is what makes the choice harder. Moreover, some like wicker furniture seems ideal for your patio and garden. A wicker set on the patio or deck looks good and relaxing. However, it breaks and rots much too easily if left in the sun and rain. They are more suitable for long covered verandah.
Aluminum too seem a good patio material, but truthfully it is not really so. It looks good and strong because of a powder coating applied on it. Unfortunately, perspiration, suntan oil and car exhaust can eat that coating away. Once the coating is removed, the aluminum can corrode beyond salvation. However, that takes time and since such furniture is reasonably priced, you can go for them. Moreover, aluminum furniture comes in many different styles ranging from plane to ornate, although that makes it harder to choose, they provide some choice for those who are more discerning.
The wrought iron outdoor furniture looks good and you may choose one for its ethnic look. However, such furniture is too heavy to be maneuverable. So, is teak outdoor furniture. Incidentally, furniture made from shorea, cedar, eucalyptus etc are also suitable for outdoor use. All of them can resist weather elements and does not need much care. You may at the most have to add some seal on them and put oil on the bolts and nuts regularly. That leaves us to synthetic material.
To be frank, most of the outdoor wicker furniture you see boldly displayed in your friends’ and neighbors’ patio or garden is actually made from synthetic material. In actual practice, there can be two kinds of outdoor wicker:
• Furniture made from PVC (Polyvinyl Chloride) or resins: Such furniture is more commonly found in people’s patios. They are as cheap as they are durable. On top of that, they look exactly like natural wicker.
• Natural wicker coated with resin, stains and paints: Natural wicker coated with resins can also be used in the outdoors because its resin coatings will give it some protection from weather elements. Others are for indoor use only.
Before you buy wicker furniture, examine the weave by hand to see if the pieces have breaks and cracks. Also, see if the weave is close enough. Closer the weave, more weight it can carry. Next, lift the furniture by hand to see if they are light enough to be maneuverable. Outdoor wicker being woven around an aluminum frame should be light and portable. Better quality indoor wicker is generally heavier and is made fully from plant products.
Of course, there is more to outdoor furniture than just a set of chair and table. What else you will buy depends much on the size of your patio and on how intensely you are going to use it. There are benches, lounges, bars, barstools, ottomans, even four-poster lounger beds. Some of the outdoors beds come with canopy to protect you from the sun. However, you must start looking for suitable patio umbrellas as well because you are not going to lounge in bed all the time, but would definitely like to sit up some time. Life is too short for that only.
If however, you have some sick and handicapped members at home, the lounger beds are just the thing for him or her. In that case, it may be advisable to look for outdoor heaters too because those who are old and infirm generally are very susceptible to cold. Outdoor heaters will keep them warm and comfortable, while they are brought out for a whip of fresh air.
Outdoor heaters and patio umbrellas too come with various styles, makes and material. You can have heaters mounted on the wall, ceiling or on the floor. Some of them are portable. Some heaters run on electricity, others run on natural gas, yet some like fire pits and chiminea run on wood. Pinion wood is cultivated for such purpose in places like Arizona and so you will not be causing any environmental degradation by burning them. On the other hand, their sweet smell will keep the bugs away.
Patio umbrellas too come in wide variety in shape, size and models. Most are free standing, yet some like the awnings can be fitted against a wall. In short, you need to pay as much attention to patio decoration as you did while decorating the interiors. Nothing comes out of nothing. Therefore sit down to surf the net, make plans on papers, allocate budget and proceed slowly.
