It is not a patio any more; it is an outdoor room and like all other rooms, it must have a few pieces of furniture, the kind, which is suitable for outdoor living. To be frank, there is such a variety of outdoor furniture that it makes the choice harder rather than easier. Even then, if I were you I would look for some unique designs that will make my patio not just comfortable, but also different from rest of the neighbors’.

However, before you do that you need to decide how you want to use your ‘outdoor room’ for the outdoor furniture you choose will depend on that.
• If you use your outdoor space just to sit and relax hammocks, chaise lounges, deep-seated sofas are good enough. You can line the lounges and sofas against a wall so that you can watch the robins come hopping or the flowers nodding their head. Such type furniture and setting is also suitable for you to curl up and read your favorite book while the children are playing in the yard. Have a low table in between to put the glasses and books on.
• If you one of those gregarious people who loves gatherings and or just chatting with friends, family or even neighbors, single chairs arranged around a low centre table or even a fire pit will be perfect. Do you know some fire pits can double as centre tables? Look for them.
• If your patio is big enough, you can install benches at odd corner. Swings also are good for quite reflection or having a romantic moment or even a confidential talk with some one special.
• You can now have open-air kitchens too with cupboard and all. You always had patio dining sets; there is nothing new to ii.
• What is new is the outdoor beds complete with canopy. However, you should remove the beddings when not in use.

If your patio is in deed big enough, you can divide them into segments by tiling them separately. Buy furniture that will look good in your setting. More importantly, they should be comfortable and durable. There cannot be any compromise on the last two factors. Never buy natural wicker furniture if yours is an open patio. They may look grand and may be comfortable, but they are suitable for covered spaces only because natural wicker breaks and rots too easily. Buy outdoor wicker instead, they are made from synthetic fiber.

In deed, the outdoor wicker furniture has become very popular these days, because it looks exactly like natural wicker, is ever lasting and comfortable. Now they come in all sorts of designs. However, you can use only outdoor wicker in your patio décor, but at the same time can also experiment a little by using them with metal outdoor furniture.

Using a little metal, especially aluminum or steel along with your outdoor wicker may not be a bad idea, especially as most of the modern patio umbrellas have aluminum or steel frame. If you have such furniture at hand, you can simply put them in different combinations until you get the right one. If you have to buy them, you first should try to put them on paper and then try to visualize the whole set up before you go shopping.

Alternately, buy an outdoor wicker sofa set and an outdoor umbrella with metal frame first. When all these are in place, you can see how you can incorporate more metal in your set up to put a balance in the wicker metal combination. You should not hurry because no patio décor can be created in a day. It is done over the years, slowly but steadily.

Outdoor heaters too are mostly made of metals and they too will need some balancing to do. However, it is not necessary to buy big items to put in this balance, but small knickknacks will also do. However, try to decide what kind of outdoor heaters will suit you most before you go for one because there are such a wide variety of them. Like outdoor furniture, both patio umbrellas and outdoor heaters too have so many models that it makes the choice harder, rather than easier.

If yours is a big patio, go for portable heater. Also, make sure that the umbrella base is heavy and are mounted on wheels for easy portability. The portable heaters are always mounted on wheels unless they are of tabletop variety. However, see that these heaters are fitted with anti tilt shut off mechanism to prevent accidents. Even then, keep them away from kids and pets. You never know what they are up to.
