Factors That Determine How You Place Your Outdoor Furniture And Other Outdoor Accessories
If it is hard to choose which outdoor furniture to buy, it is harder to decide how to set them up to gain the maximum benefit out of the arrangement. The answer to both the question should depend on the following factors:
• How big is your patio?
• Does it include all the open space you have or is there a separate garden?
• Is it for your family’s personal use or do you generally entertain a lot?
• How much money you can afford to spend on your patio right now?
• On top of everything, what kind of outdoor furniture would you like?
• Would you like them to stay put in one place or would you like them to be more portable?
We will take up the last question first, though all of them are interlinked. Outdoor furniture comes in different kinds of style, make and material. Some like teak patio furniture or wrought iron furniture are heavy, while some like wicker and PVC are light and easily portable. They are also cheaper than heavier teak outdoor furniture and so if you are on a budget or if you would like to move them from time to time, you may opt for them.
The word PVC stands for Polyvinyl Chloride. It is a form of a very versatile plastic. These furniture are more shock absorbent and are less likely to chip than ordinary plastic furniture. They are available in true to life imitation of wicker or even wood. Truthfully, most of the outdoor wicker furniture you see today is made from PVC or other synthetic material. Natural wicker is more suitable for sunrooms or shaded balconies and verandah, where they remain protected from natural elements.
How you position your outdoor furniture depends upon the shape of the patio, though it is not much of an issue if it is outdoor wicker, which can be moved around. In general, they should be set up in a circle around a centre table or a fire pit for easy conversation. Lining them up may facilitate enjoyment of great views, if your patio offers any, but such arrangement hinder conversation. You or your guest can pull up the chairs to watch the garden flowers nodding their heads or bird chirping and pecking at the birdfeed. For easy interaction, group them round a table under a patio umbrella.
Choosing right patio umbrellas is not easy either. They also come in different styles, makes and materials. Moreover, they come in different shapes and sizes too. If you have a dining table set up in the patio, you can buy the usual market umbrella that passes through the hole in the centre of the table, to be fixed to a base under it. You can also put them up without the table, but in that case, you must buy a heavier base, or else the umbrella may not remain as steady as you wish.
There are also sidepost patio umbrellas. They as the name suggests have the posts at one side, rather than in the centre. Both the offset umbrella and cantilever umbrella fall in this category. Your choice of umbrella should depend on the sitting arrangements and of course on your taste. If you do not like a pole coming in-between you, you can opt for sidepost umbrellas. However, you should think twice if you live in a high wind area. Although, all umbrella manufacturers will advise you to close the patio umbrellas before a storm that may not always be possible. Will your sidepost umbrella remain as steady in such a case?
Buying a centre post umbrella with fiberglass ribs should be best bet for people living in high wind area, because such rib will bend to let the wind pass, but will not break. People living in such areas should be careful about placement of their outdoor heaters too. It is better for them to buy radiant heating system. The conventional patio heaters works on convectional mode. They heat up the air, which in turn heats up the object within its range. However, a lot of heat is wasted because the wind does not blow in the way you want all the time.
Outdoor heaters that uses the radiant heat does not heat up the air in between, but only the solid object in its path and so less heat is lost. However, gas patio heaters are also very popular these days. Whatever you buy, keep the portability or the lack of it in mind. If your patio furniture is set permanently at one place, you can buy fixed heaters. Such heaters are steadier. Buy portable outdoor heaters if you mean to move them around and there are quite a lot of them. Choose one from them.
