Blending The Patio Furniture With The Surrounding Is No Hard Task
Are you tired of watching the TV over and over again? The programs do not really interest you, yet, you keep on switching the channels because you have nothing better to do! Why don’t you walk out of the door into the patio and watch the blue sky above your head and the green grass below your feet? Wait a while to watch the robin hopping in or the blue bird gliding across the sky. If you are not a nature enthusiastic, give yourself a chance. You will not have to try hard.
If you have a patio, do not leave it bare. Decorate it to make it an extension of your home. That is what a patio is supposed to be. Choose the patio furniture carefully. The ideal patio furniture should be:
- Comfortable
- Durable
- Weather resistant
- UV resistant
- Aesthetically pleasing
- Blends with the surrounding
Of course, ‘comfortable’ is a relative term and so is ‘aesthetically pleasing’. Something that is comfortable enough to me may not be so for you. What you find aesthetically pleasing can be hideous to me. That happens in rare cases. Usually they vary in degrees only and so decorate it the way you and other members of your family like.
Plants are an integral part of any patio décor. If you have enough space, you can plant some big trees. However, that for most of us is out of question. We can at the most indulge in a few flowering vines, shrubs and herbs. Place some chairs here and there or group them under a patio umbrella. These umbrellas not only save you from harmful rays, especially the ultra violet rays of the sun, but also provide the patio with certain character. If in doubt, try to visualize your patio with and then without a patio umbrella.
It is natural that all the patio fixtures should be durable, weather resistant and UV resistant. It is also natural that they should be pleasant to behold and comfortable to use. It is the last point – ‘blends with the surrounding’, which many may find a little challenging. But that is what decoration is is all about! When you buy a sofa or a cupboard, you make sure that they ‘blend with the surrounding’, don’t you? Patio furniture is no different. They too should blend with the surrounding.
You will find patio furniture in different designs, materials and makes. Take time to choose. As you surf the net and come across new designs, try to visualize them in your patio. Wicker outdoor furniture, as the name suggests, is designed for outdoor use. However, if the wicker is natural it is better to restrict their use to covered porches or verandahs because natural wicker is least weather resistant.
Wicker is made from parts of cane, rattan, reed, bamboo or willow. Of them, the ones that are made from vines of rattan are supposed to be most durable. They are also unsurpassed in their beauty and comfort. However, they need constant maintenance to keep in good shape. If you buy them for your patio, you need to store them under some shed when not in use and if you want to leave them in the patio all the time, buy the ones that are made from synthetic wicker.
Resin wicker outdoor furniture is most suitable for use in patio or gardens and backyards. There is also plastic wicker furniture. Most chairs come with cushions. However, a patio cushion is generally made from water resistant and fade resistant material. Yet, they sometimes need to be replaced. Fortunately, such replacements cushions can be ordered over the net. Add a few throw in pillow to brighten the whole place.
Therefore, if you are bored, switch off the television. It is doing you no good. Walk out into the patio and start furnishing it with whatever you have. Make a rough plan first and then buy different fixtures. If you do not have big enough space for a traditional patio umbrella, try an awning, or a half canopy type wall umbrella. If you have a big patio, you can buy a dining set along with a sofa set. Dining outs will be more fun then. You will get newer ideas as you start working on your patio. What is more, it is going to be a continuous process. You will not have to surf channels because you have nothing to do. You will always have something to do, something to look forward to.
